Purpose of the Contest／開催趣旨
To help students at junior and senior high school learn the Three Cs (listed below) by working together to produce a newspaper. 本コンテストに挑戦する高校生や中学生が、次の３つのCを学ぶことを目的とします。
Students will be placed in teams of people from different cultural backgrounds and learn to work collaboratively.
文化的背景が異なる人とチームを組み、協同で仕事をする。
Students will learn how to gather unbiased information in order to gain a better understanding of their subjects and their environments.
相手と相手の環境について、正しい情報を収拾し、それを理解する。
Students will learn how to communicate with readers from other countries using English, the world’s lingua franca.
世界共通語としての英語で、外国人とコミュニケーションをとる。

Eligible Applicants／対象
High school students (teams of high school and junior high school students are acceptable). *Only applications from schools will be accepted. 高校生（高校生と中学生のチーム参加は可） *学校からの応募のみ受け付けます。

１．Application／申込
After applying, you will gain access to the following items and you will be able to submit an official entry to the contest.
申込すると、以下のものをお使いいただけます。
[1] An explanatory video titled, “Efficient Newspaper Editing.”

[2] Dummy sheet
レイアウトの原稿用紙
[3] Sample format for the English-language newspaper (in MS Word)
英字新聞のフォーマット(Word)

＊Teams are not required to use the sample format above for their entry, and can use any software to create their layout. 英字新聞を制作する上で、必ずしも上記のフォーマットを使う必要はありません。レイアウトに使用するソフトウェアに制限はありません。 ＊A proposal must be submitted by each team in the application stage. 申込時に企画書の提出が必須です。 ＊Applications to the contest are automatically made for Student edition in the GEIC English Newspaper Production Project. GEICが提供する『英字新聞制作プロジェクト』に参加している場合は、自動的にStudent版で応募となります。
２．Entry／応募
<<< Deadline／締切日 >>> Friday 26 January 2024, 17:00 2024年1月26日（金）17：00 <<< Entry Requirements／応募条件 >>> (1) Newspaper must be a maximum of four pages in tabloid or A3 format. Pages can be of any design. タブロイド版またはA3版で4ページ以内で制作してください。紙面のデザインは自由です。 (2) Each entry must include a proposal document delineating target readership and planned articles. どのような読者に、どのようなことを伝える新聞であるかを記載した企画書も提出してください。 (3) Include at least one article on information about the area (village, town, city, etc.) in which the school is located. 学校所在地周辺（市区町村）の地域情報に関する記事を１つ以上加えて下さい。 (4) Students should produce the English newspaper themselves. However, they are allowed to seek out advice from teachers and others. 生徒の皆さんが制作した英字新聞で応募してください。但し、他者（学校の先生を含む）からアドバイスを得ても構いません。 <<< How to entry／応募方法 >>> Send your newspaper and the proposal using the entry form provided in the email reply to your application. 申込時の返信メールに掲載された応募フォームで、新聞と企画書をお送りください。 <<< First round of judging fee／一次審査応募費 >>> 2,000 JPY per newspaper Please transfer the funds by Friday, January 26, 2024. ３．First Round of Judging／一次審査
The results of the first round of judging will be notified by Thursday, February 29, 2024. Ten teams will be selected for the second round of judging. Feedback will be sent to the teams that entry. 一次審査の結果は2024年2月29日（木）までにお知らせします。10チームが第二次審査に選出されます。応募されたチームにはフィードバックをお送りします。
４．Second Round of Judging & Ceremony／二次審査と表彰式
<<< Announcement of results／結果発表 >>> Teams that pass the first round of judging will be invited to take part in the ceremony. Each team will be asked to give a presentation of 5 minutes or less.
